- Several areas of pebble dash were coming loose due to water penetration
- Difficulty keeping the property warm. Solid wall construction
- Improvement to the exterior appearance of the property
By applying ProPERLA Masonry Crème, SCC Services created super hydrophobic surfaces (similar to the lotus leaf) on the exterior walls of these cottages, ensuring they had full weather protection from wind-driven rain, Instead of the rain absorbing into the exterior wall, which is then transferred into the internal wall, the rain after treatment is simply repelled from the wall. In keeping the walls dry, they helped to prevent future problems with water penetration and protect the heritage properties from damage & decay that long-term exposure to the elements can cause.
While providing weather protection, it was crucial for these properties to maintain their natural beauty, which is why ProPERLA Masonry Creme was chosen. ProPERLA Masonry Creme does not alter the appearance of mineral surfaces such as brick, stone & concrete. It achieves this by penetrating deep into the substrate instead of creating a film on the surface, thus waterproofing the exterior wall itself rather than creating a waterproof film. This means that when dried, the cottages were left perfectly natural.
On older properties such as this, it is crucial that any exterior coating that is applied does not restrict the ability for the property to breathe. Any prevention of moisture escaping the property can lead to significant damp problems and damage caused to the building materials. ProPERLA Masonry Creme has been independently proven to have no restriction on the movement of water vapour, which means that while moisture cannot enter the building, any moisture that naturally builds up inside the property can escape. The combination of high breathability and water resistance is why ProPERLA Masonry Creme has become an extremely popular solution for specification on listed buildings in order to maintain natural beauty, while providing an effective resolving moisture ingress that if left untreated will lead to the deterioration of the building.
